As the birthplace of American democracy, this nation’s earliest roots were planted in Pennsylvania’s soil – and in the family farms that have been passed down from generation to generation that still feed and fuel our nation today. As we reflect on the upcoming celebration of America’s 250 th Anniversary, we are reminded that the spirit that built this country runs right through our farmlands and continues to thrive across our Commonwealth. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is a powerful reminder of how deeply agriculture touches every corner of our state. It is more than a way of life — it is a driving force in our economy, generating $132.5 billion each year and supporting nearly 600,000 jobs. The farms, families, and innovations showcased here stand on a legacy we honor through smart investment and farmland preservation, with more than 6,600 farms and 650,000 acres safeguarded — the most of any state in the nation. The future of Pennsylvania agriculture is also on full display here. Pennsylvania’s ag industry is at the center of the Commonwealth’s plan for economic growth – and we’ve backed up that commitment with meaningful investments that foster innovation, strengthen our core industries, expand PA Farm Bill opportunities, and preserve the farmland that roots our rural communities.
